> Sustainablity [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 ] |
What I really wanted to say in the introduction is that IDE is a study to find out compromise between economic development and environmental problems. Now, a key word on this issue is 'Sustainable Development' which is widely supported all over the world. However, I am rather cautious to use this phrase. The global project concerning about Sustainable Development has started at a UNCED meeting held at Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. They declared a plan to keep both economics and environment which called Agenda 21. They set a couple of future achievements such as to save resources, to eradicate poverty, to protect nature etc. From that point, Sustainable Development became broadly approved as a solution of this issue. The origin of this idea comes from an assumption that human beings cannot stop their progress in technology and a thought that natural environment is capable to accept an impact in some extent. Then, we can continue growing if human activities keep the balance with the capability of natural resourse and system. It sounds quite convincing but this idea is basically supported by developed countries not developing nations. There seems to be intense arguments among them all the time. ( 2nd Feb 2005 ) |
