Toulouse is a city in France situated near the border with Spain. We left Barcelona to Toulouse by railways; Talgo and TGV. Because of the different width of the rails between two coutries, Talgo has designed to be able to change its wheel distance. TGV is like Shinkansen in Japan. The city has impressive colour by the red bricks. It became very famous and still well-known among Japanese because of the first football match for the World Cup in 1998. As the location is rather south in France, the weather is relatively warm. This was the first day of the year 2005. We could see a couple of people but not far more than usual I suppose. It was a quite odd feeling to be abroad at the New Year Day.

This church was worth looking. I had visited many churches so far but never seen like this. The name is Basilique St-Sernin built in 13th century. I was astonished by the huge brick structure built almost 800 years ago. Some of the Middle Ages wall paintings are absolutely stunning. This view is one of my favorite in this trip. The river, the bridge, the clouds above us and the church over the river show the beautiful combination. A path along the river was really nice to walk. People just enjoyed walking with their friends, families, and dogs. That ordinary scene reminded me of the New Year Day. I think, it was the best thing to do.
